Next Project!

Here is a glimpse of what I'm currently working on.  I don't like working with size 10 thread very much but it's what's needed for this particular project.  I modified a Starlit, cut the nose and added a hook so I could use it with the size 10 thread.  This is one rare occasion where I'm willing to forego my beloved Aeros because you do need to fill the bobbin just too often when working with thicker thread like that and I didn't want to have joins.

I always love purple and green together!

I should be able to show you the finished item very soon.

Best wishes,
Frivole

  4. I know it's a trade secret, so I'm not asking, but I do marvel at how you can get a hook on that teensy thing and make it all just "work"! I love the idea of a hook on a "click-wind" shuttle and will certainly be in the queue for a pair if La Cossette decides to expand her range yet further... Any chance, since you can add your own hooks, of asking La Cossette if they can put on fine hooks for people who like working with size 100 or even sewing thread? I find that with sewing thread my picots will only take the smallest crochet hook I have (0.6 mm) for joins. Regs... Megs

    2. Thank you Frivole - I'm looking forward to placing a "custom order". ;-D

      All the best,
      Megan
ps You've done a lovely job of the coat too. How you can do it all (everything on your blogs) so quickly beats me. You do remember what sleep is? No? I didn't think so...

  6. Well, I am not as shy as Megan. How DO you put the crochet needles in the shuttles? I have been dying to know. I've got a few that the snozes have broken off and I would love to make them useful again.
Please, please let me know how.

    1. Hi Stringydogs, I won't give all the detail but the main part of it is to heat a hook of appropriate length until it's red hot and then melt it into the plastic. You have to be quick… and you have to aim right! :-)

  7. I also love purple and green together. The combination reminds me of the wild violets that grow in my yard. I can hardly wait to see what you're making!

  8. So clever with your shuttles!

Nice pattern, and I too find I no longer enjoy working with 10 now that I have some skill with my tatting. It's rough and cuts up my hands, and I like the more delicate appearance/results of the smaller threads.

Oh, I am coveting your jeweled grape shuttle in your etsy shop! DH said he'd buy it for me, but I just got that other one.... oh you temptress!

    1. Hi Grace, you are right, even compared to size 20 which is the one I use most often, size 10 feels like rope!

I've now finished that tatting and I'm in the process of attaching...

  9. I have had several of these Custom Starlit made and I love the amount of thread they hold. Joelle is "Master of the Plastic".
And besides the amount of thread they hold is the hook and the precise way they are decorated. Bye, Robin
